EDUC970: Dissertation Literature Review: Search Alerts

This guide contains information about databases, citation management tools, and search tips for the literature review.

Creating Search Alerts

After you have created search strategies for the databases, save them! You can create "search alerts" and receive them as an email message.

The PDF file contains instructions for how to save searches and create alerts within EBSCOHost, PubMed & Web of Science.

In addition to saving search strategies for topics, you may also want to consider creating an alert for specific journals.  You can create an alert within a database or register for table of contents alerts at the journal website. Often times, articles that are published "ahead of print" may not be indexed. For example, CINAHL Complete does not include "ahead of print" citations. PubMed does index "ahead of print" or "in press" articles.
